Job Title: Surgery Scheduler
Shift/Schedule: 5X8; 8am-4:30pm EST
Dress Code: Business Causal or Scrubs


JOB SUMMARY:
Prepares the most time- and resource-efficient daily Operating Room schedules based on physician requests, physician history
files, hospital admissions, emergent/add-on cases, cancellations, etc. Maintains the daily operation of the posting department
using department specific surgical scheduling software and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- 1-3+ years of surgery scheduling experience
- HS Diploma/GED
- Preferred: Associated Degree

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:
Schedules the procedure on-line using department specific guidelines. Assignments must maximize OR utilization while minimizing
possible OR schedule delays. Prepares and reviews schedules for Operating Rooms. Continuously updates and implements
requests
for changes, cancellations, and reactivations to the schedules; maintains a Wait List of procedures when necessary, giving
consideration to first time requested, equipment and staff constraints, and physician availability. Distributes schedules to
appropriate departments. Provides clinical coordinators in all OR areas with up-to-date and accurate future schedules, so they may
anticipate patient and surgical, anesthesia, and nursing staff needs. Provides physician with reports as requested. Obtain from the
MD's office the appropriate site and/or levels. Maintain the number of rooms in operation each shift per policy. Collaborate with
the Posting Coordinator any changes that may have occurred on the schedule. Review equipment conflict when posting cases.
Maintain correct spelling of procedures on the schedule. Carry out the daily surgical schedule in collaboration with anesthesia,
clinical leader, and other healthcare professional (as needed). Under direction, operates in accordance with all clinic standards
including adherence to the use of
Cerner EMR.
Coordinates between the surgeon and the patient the timing, preparation and expectations for surgical procedures. Determines a
surgical date based on surgeon and patient availability and readiness. Receives and assesses from the surgeon the expected
procedure and preliminary diagnosis. Assigns appropriate procedure and diagnosis codes. Obtains and documents special
directions regarding anesthesiology, equipment and other needs for the procedure. Counsels the patient about what to expect
regarding the pre-admission process, appointments for ancillary services and scheduling post-operative appointments. Assures
that the patient fully understands the procedures and a signed consent was obtained from the clinician.
Attend in-services that are relevant to the Scheduling department. Maintain abreast of new terminology and surgical procedures.
Is a role model of professionalism and serve as a role model and preceptor.
Collaborate and communicate with team members. Serve as a resource to peers, and orientees, and implement orientation
programs at the unit and team level. Participates in self, team and peer performance evaluation process, which includes assisting
team
members in goal setting, professional development and performance improvement. Collaborates in the development of and staff
knowledge/compliance with Sinai policy and procedures. Demonstrate effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrates knowledge of and participates in department fiscal initiatives. To increase the working relationship with the
Physician office's, physicians, and other members of the surgical department. Collaborate with other team members to participate
in performance improvement programs.

empathy and understanding of patient/customer concerns by listening carefully and responding appropriately. Exceed
